Toy Fair 2018

Post by LastOfTheSonics on Mon 22 Jan 2018 - 19:39

So in case you are unaware, Toy Fair for this year commences tomorrow and runs through to Friday. Now before you get your hopes up, no there will not be anything new from CO. That's not to say they won't have anything in store later on in the year, however in regards to Toy Fair, do not get your hopes up for them. Additionally, we are unlikely to see any new Pop figures from Funko, however the cards are on the table for Rocky Candy-styled figures from them, and possibly more Playmobil. TITANS will also be attending, meaning we may possibly get information in regards to a new case.

This topic has been designed as a "round-up" section. Any announcements relating to Doctor Who will be relayed here if anything is unveiled. However, it is not likely there will be that much announced.

The big announcment from the toy fair today is....there is absolutely NOTHING! Just like Lastofthesonics suspected. Character Options announced last Summer a range of stuff from series 10 due in the Autumn, now January and nothing.
.at this rate, series 11 stuff will be previewed next January at the toy fair and for shops summer/autumn 2019 & by that time they will already be out of date.

Wow, I am shocked to see that literally no company has said anything. Not even TITANS or Funko! And we thought that it couldn't get it any worse than last year! We've gone from re-releases to re-nothings!

Half way through the event and still literally nothing from anyone.

However, according to Booboo at the Doctor Who Site, CO may possibly be outlining this year's plans with retailers . Like with all CO-news, take this with a pinch of salt.

Yea, well we have two new figures...which will never see the light of day!

I posted this on Twitter, the site Dr Who online replied to me saying on these things take time and hinted CO has some plans, I pointed out that we were told series 10 stuff would be out by the auntum of 2017, to whic they replied 'plans change'. I also pointed out fans do not beleive anything unless they see it. I also pointed out its unlikey any series 11 stuff (I could be wrong) will not be out until next Summer. I base this theroy on the fact toy manufactures show off their goods at the toy fair in January, so it will be January 2019 that CO may show us anything and by the time its out it will be out of date.
If CO & the BBC have any brains, they should get an 13th Doctor figure out for when the series starts.

It's not all bad-if you like Titans, they've announced the ratios for their upcoming Kawaii series, and also the chase variants-there will be a War Doctor and variants of the Fifth, Ninth and Tenth Doctors. Finally, there will be a con exclusive Pop! Amy in police uniform variant.

Well, that's something I suppose. Not as a good as an entire Wave 4, but I suppose at least we're getting something to do with Doctor Who.

A guy on Facebook posted this:
There is currently a huge downturn in Doctor Who excitement and retail sales. The year off has destroyed the market for Doctor Who merchandise . I sell retail and at conventions in Canada and last year sales fell off a cliff. Less than Half if the year previous . Do not expect anything new until they see what level of excitement the show brings next fall and then they may start to develops new items. All my suppliers are overstocked with inventory that is not selling, they will not committee to anything new.

So now that toy fair is over, here is a complete and extensive of list of the great amount of things that were announced:
--Amy Pond in Police Uniform Pop Vinyl (which we already knew about)

And that's all, there's so many things on that list, I doubt I'll be able to afford it all.

I feel the same way-I might have to miss out on Big Finish releases for a couple of months to afford them all!

Crikey yeah! Going to miss many Big finish releases to have to afford all of it. Probably going to have to cut down on the Figurine Collection too!

For me I won't be buying anything, though I need to shift some old books to make way for the new novels, like Rose and Twice Upon a Time.
